We are committed to reducing around 90% of greenhouse gas emissions
and reaching a net-zero target by 2050. While this target has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), achieving net-zero may be further afield. Thus, we have set clear and specific targets for the nearer future:

  • Reduce 68.9% of Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions (from 2019) by 2030.
  • Switch 100% of energy to renewable sources by 2030.
  • Convert 100% of our internal fleet to electric vehicles or vehicles with low carbon fuel by 2030.
  • Restore 2.7 hectares of degraded land in the Buffers, Setbacks and Retained Forest by 2030.
  • From 2021 reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 51.6% (per thousand visitors) by 2030.
  • Ensure that 30% of our suppliers (by emissions) will have science-based targets by 2028.
  • Divert 60% of waste from incineration by 2030.
  • Reduce the intensity of potable water use by 25% in our existing 4 wildlife parks.
  • Make a 100% switch to RSPO’s (Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil) palm oil and sustainably sourced paper-based products by 2025.

Working Towards A Zero-waste Future

We are also working on achieving the near-term target of diverting 60% of waste from incineration by 2030. Processes include:

cleanedplasticbeforerecycling

  • Removing all single-use plastic carrier bags and bottled drinks from our operations. This has allowed us to successfully move on from the use of single-use fossil-based plastic disposables across all our parks since 2023.

hissingcockroach

  • Enlisting the help of black soldier flies and Madagascan hissing cockroaches to compost raw food waste from our F&B kitchens, and animal food waste from all parks.

reusabletray

  • Diverting 750kg of waste per year by engaging our suppliers to reduce packaging waste brought into the parks through take-back systems. Since then, they have replaced single-use paper egg-trays with reusable trays.

recycledbedding

  • Reusing animal leftover browse and horticultural waste as mulch and animal bedding.

foodwastedigester

  • Recycling food waste from Mandai Wildlife West in a food digester which decomposes up to two tonnes of food waste in 24 hours.

softtoyhospital

  • Upcycling preloved soft toys at our Soft Toy Hospital, which is dedicated to creating environmentally friendly safe and hygienic soft toys for everyone.

photoofhappyguest

  • Encouraging our guests to bring reusables, finish the food that they have ordered, and recycle right.
